Over 300 members of the Tamil Nadu Noon Meal Employees Association were arrested for staging a road blockade on the State Bank Road, near the Collectorate, demanding implementation of two-point charter of demands on Thursday.

Prior to the road blockade, the employees took out a rally from the association office premises near Thomas Club adjacent to the Office of the Superintendent of Police and sat on the road.

They were blocked by the police in front of the BSNL office.

A few members of the association blocked the road on the other side opposite to the State Bank of India, thus resulting in traffic disruption for over 15 minutes.

The procession was led by district president of the association Innacimuthu and the road blockade agitation was addressed by its former district president Nayagam.

The association urged the district administration to fill vacant posts in noon meal scheme and regularisation of those working under the consolidated pay.

Due to the shortage of employees, the were forced to cook food for two to three schools at one place and transport it to the neighbouring schools as head loads.

They also alleged that the district administration is dormant in spite of several appeals, even after conducting personal interviews, it is sitting on the file.
