K. Dinakaran, MLA, on Monday accused the State Government of neglecting Sulur constituency and said no development works was being carried out there. The DMDK leader, along with supporters, staged a sit-in in front of the Collectorate where the public grievances redress meeting was in progress.
In a petition submitted to the district administration, he said that Sulur lacked proper roads, a treasury office, Fire Safety and Rescue Services station, and an All Women Police Station.
He claimed that the financial relief being given to drought-affected farmers were not being properly disbursed in Sulur. While several of these issues were raised during the Amma camps, no action was taken, he said. He said that Old Age Pensions were not being distributed properly in the lat two months.
He said that the State Government should take steps to address the problems of power loom weavers. Thousands of power looms in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts stopped production on Friday demanding that higher wages be paid. He claimed that the sector was incurring a loss of Rs. 40 crore a day.
Contract workersThe Tamil Nadu Minvariya Anna Podhu Thozhilalar Sangham asked the district administration to regularise the services of contract workers. In a petition, the union said that compensation for workers who suffer injuries while on duty be disbursed quickly.
RecruitmentA group of B.E. Computer Science graduates who had completed Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) petitioned the district administration to recruit them in Government schools.
They said that more than 15,000 graduates were languishing without a job.
Action soughtResidents of Thennamanallur asked the district administration to take action against a group of persons who were mining sand from Noyyal.
In a petition, C. Sivakumar, a farmer from Therkuthottam, said that sand was being transported using donkeys.
