Four arrested on kidnap charge

Avinashi police arrested Sundaram alias Kalyanasundaram, 30, Senthilkumar, 22, Jayakumar, 30, and Pradeep, 25, on charges of kidnapping a young woman and attempting to rape her. The police said that the four, who were in a car, forcefully picked up the 19-year-old employee of a knitwear factory from a bus stop at Kalampalayam. On hearing her cries of help, those present in the area chased the car, intercepted the vehicle and nabbed the four. They latter handed the four over to the police. The woman was on her way to her factory in New Tirupur.

Public protest

Depositors of FMP Foundation thronged the District Police Office in Tirupur on Monday after the Foundation’s promoters James and his wife Mercy failed to repay the money. According to sources, residents of localities in and around Tirupur, lured by the housing scheme promoted by the Foundation, had deposited Rs. 5,000 and in multiples thereof. At the end of the promised period of three months, the Foundation did not return the money, which angered the depositors. They barged into the Foundation’s office at Gandhinagar and took James and employees Meera and Anandakumar to the DPO. At the Office, James was reported to have promised to return the money at the earliest. The police said that they had not registered a case.

Student killed

Dakshinamoorthy, 20, son of Chinnasamy, was killed in a road accident on Monday evening. According to the Traffic Investigation Wing (Central) police, the incident happened when Dakshinamoorthy and his friend Dineshkumar, 23, were returning from Gandhipuram to their room they had hired in Saravanampatty. While trying to overtake a car, they hit a van that was moving in the opposite direction. In the impact of collision, Dakshinamoorthy died on the spot. Dineshkumar, who sustained injuries, was admitted at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The police have registered a case in this connection.
