‘Expedite airport expansion project’

September 17, 2014 11:06 am | Updated 11:06 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The long-pending demands of the industries here have been better roads, more flyovers, and improvement in rail and road connectivity.

The State Government recently announced a Rs. 2,378.39 crore development package for Coimbatore, focusing on several infrastructure projects. Yet, some of the main demands have not been met, say industry sources here.

For instance, with growth in business, more international visitors coming to Coimbatore, and entrepreneurs travelling to other cities, expansion of the airport should be expedited, they say. The State Government should also take up the issue with the Centre.

Similarly, rail connectivity with Bangalore should be improved.

Though these are projects that should be taken up by the Centre, the State Government should support these requirements of the city, they say. The State Government should also constitute a greater development authority for Coimbatore, implement the western bypass road project, and shift the Central prison outside the city, they said.
