On an information provided by the students of Government Arts College, Attur, a team led by Aragalur Pon Venkatesan, president of the SHRC, conducted a study in the area recently.

The members found a couple of stone sculptures in a farm land at Therkkumedu area in the village.

One stone depicted a hero belonging to Vanakovaraiyar dynasty, which ruled Magadha area with Aragalur as headquarters. The warrior was found to be clad with ornaments worn during the times of wars.

Another stone depicted a man carrying four arrows on his back and a bow in his right hand. The site where the stone sculptures were found were said to be given to women workers of Aragalur Kamanatheeswarar Temple by the King, according to Mr. Venkatesan. “The stones might be to commemorate warriors who died in the battle field. The war might have taken place in the 13th century”, he said.
