Things are afoot in the fashion circuit in Chennai. Fashionistas are speaking a new language when it comes to shoes and sandals. With footwear being favoured as a top splurge by the svelte set, brands that combine comfort and style don't escape the list of sole-searchers.

Launched recently, with a fashion show featuring high profile models, Language, at Rutland Gate, Nungambakkam, showcases international brands that make interesting footnotes.

Language marks the entry into retail by Bachi of Bachi Shoes and Akbar and Akthar of Khizaria. With a reputed background in exports for decades, the Chennai-based trio is confident about gaining a foothold in the already-crammed retail market.

The USP? “Affordable luxury. Yes, footwear for men, women and children that match European standards — without the prohibitive price tags!” smiles Bachi.

“The plus lies in the fact that we are manufactures for leading labels in Europe. So, when we decided to enter retail, brands such as Belgium's Stones N Bones and Germany's Super Fit were enthusiastic about having their lines showcased at our store,” explains Bachi.

The kids section in the store, with attention-grabbing graphic patterns and show windows, covers shoes, sandals and slippers (six months to 10 years).

It's already attracted many footfalls because of the range that's not just non-toxic, but also painstakingly designed to support the supple sole and bones of children.

Rounded toe boxes, absorbent insoles, strong heel counters and relatively straight soles are some of the details worth noticing.

Models hit a new high with Italy's famous Miss Sixty brand known for its signature blend of style and sexiness.

For those not too keen on skyscraper heels that extend legs visually, there are some flat, strappy or lace-up options with which you can show off your carefully-pedicured feet.

Miss Sixty also includes a sprinkling of stylish clutches and handbags.

The new men's shoe is about instant attention. And White, Language's in-house brand does just that. Besides the predictable formals, the men's line has some cool designs for those who prefer trendy over classy.

According to Akbar, the palette for men has transcended the staple tan, taupe and beige. Non-neutrals that put colour on your feet are in. And, the frontrunners at Language include vivid violet, can't-miss orange and sunshine yellow!

Soon to be introduced is “Design by Language”, a label for men and women that includes not just footwear, but also bags, belts and other fashion extras that count.
