A few months ago at Kozhikode, Asif Ali was talking about his forthcoming movies. “There is a movie in which Biju Menon plays my father,” he said, with a twinkle in his eyes. That, you thought at the time, was something of a casting coupe.

The film Asif sounded excited about is Anuraga Karikkin Vellam . Directed by debutant Khalid Rahman, Anuraga Karikkin Vellam reaches cinemas in time to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. “When I decided to make Anuraga Karikkin Vellam , I had wanted to cast Biju in that role, but I naturally had doubts whether he would be willing to do that at this stage of his career. When I told him the plot of the film, he agreed to play the role,” says Rahman, younger brother of cinematographer Shyju Khalid.

Rahman adds: “I have known Asif for a long time and Rejisha Vijayan, the debutant heroine, is also a friend. I was also lucky that August Cinema came forward to produce the film; a big banner does make things easier for you,” he says.

Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is a light-hearted movie. It has romance and is also about the relationship between a police officer (Biju) and his architect son (Asif). Asha Sharath plays Biju’s wife. The cast includes Sudheer Karamana, Sreenath Bhasi, Soubin Shahir and Maniyanpilla Raju. The cinematographer of Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is Rahman’s younger brother Jimshi Khalid.

Music, adds Rahman, is an important element in the film. There are four songs. Prashant Pillai is the composer, while the lyrics are written by Shabareesh Varma and Harinarayanan.
