The San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) this year offered its fans a lot to get their geek on. Here is a round-up of the biggest event of the year for comic-book and fantasy fiction fans all around.

From Stranger Things to Star Trek

Expectations are pretty high for the second season of Stranger Things , a runaway hit series from Netflix that released last year. Following a number of teasers and the announcement of a premier date, a full three-minute trailer for the next season was released at the SDCC this year. From references to Dragon’s Lair, to a voiceover from Thriller, and the ultimate reveal that the show’s favourite character is back – the trailer has left its fans optimistic and excited.

The first full trailer of the new Star Trek TV series was revealed, along with more details about the show. The clip gives us the first look of Jason Isaacs’ Captain Gabriel Lorca and Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, along with glimpses of a growing conflict between the Federation and the Klingons. Star Trek: Discovery debuts on Netflix on September 24 2017.

Westworld is not set to return till 2018, but for fans of the show, the trailer of the second season was exciting enough. In its typical fashion, the trailer has a familiar tune which meanders along with the storyline. After it winds through surprising twists and turns, we see someone in the end: Ed Harris’s smirking face covered in blood. What next? Well, nearly a year left to find out!

The Marvel vs DC debate rages on

Comic Con 2017 saw the second trailer of the much-awaited Thor: Ragnarok in which the God of Thunder joins hands with ‘Big Guy’ Hulk in his fight against Hela, the God of Death, played by the fantastic Cate Blanchett. Where there is Thor, there is Avengers and a poster for Avengers: Infinity War — along with a secret trailer that was shown only to a select audience — was released. However, what garnered most of the attention at the event was the panel with Black Panther stars. Black Panther’s lead actor Chadwick Boseman was greeted with cheers and applause even as it was announced that the film will release only in 2018.

As for DC Studios, it was announced that a sequel to the blockbuster Wonder Woman is on the cards. However, DC played its cards close to its chest, and did not reveal if the sequel will star Gal Gadot or not and whether it will be helmed by Patty Jenkins.

Ben Affleck as Batman returns in Justice League and this time he has quite a few friends to help him. Along with Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman, Batman battles the bad guys in the DC universe.

Films that got centrestage

Fans were in for a huge surprise when it was revealed that Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard from Ridley Scott's 1982 science-fiction classic Blade Runner . Titled Blade Runner 2049 the new trailer reveals an ensemble cast including Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Jared Leto and others. And it will be helmed by Scott yet again. “Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years,” the official announcement of the YouTube trailer reads.

The trailer of Steven Spielberg’s ambitious and much-awaited film Ready Player One was released during this year’s Comic Con. The film is based on Ernest Cline's legendary novel.
