“That’s an understatement,” Binny Bansal said when asked whether he had tried to persuade IIT colleague and co-founder of Flipkart, Sachin Bansal, to stay on in the company after Walmart announced that it was pumping in $16 billion into the Indian online retailer.
“Sachin and I go back a long way,” Mr. Binny Bansal said, pointing out that they were part of a group of eight IIT friends who hung out in Bangalore. “Sad for me to part ways. He [Mr. Sachin Bansal] set a very high bar.”
Mr. Sachin Bansal is reported to have sold his entire 5.5% share in Flipkart to Walmart. According to Mr. Binny Bansal, his namesake would “definitely make us proud” in whatever he does.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Sachin Bansal said, “Sadly my work here is done and after 10 years, it’s time to hand over the baton and move on from Flipkart. But I’ll be watching and cheering from the outside — Flipsters, you better continue to do a good job!”
“I’ll be taking some long time off and focus on finishing a few personal projects which I haven’t been able to find time for. Will catch up on gaming (and see what kids are playing these days) and brush up on my coding skills,” the post added.
