The School Education Department is studying the issue of upgrading government-aided schools, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu told the Assembly on Thursday.
Answering a question of M. Appavu (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) during Question Hour, the Minister said since 1991, the government's position was that it would not provide further grants and the school management would have to take care of additional salary payment of teachers.
If aided schools agreed to the conditions, the government was willing to allow upgrading them.
However, demands kept on coming.
Deputy Chief Minister M. K. Stalin was also seized of the matter. He advised the Department to study the matter. On completion of the Department's task, the issue would be taken up with Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister before taking any decision.
Computers in hostels
When M.K. Vishnu Prasad (Congress) asked whether computers would be provided in hostels of Backward Classes students, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Backward Classes Minister, replied that the matter was under the consideration of the government.
