Some unknown persons had allegedly mixed pesticide in the overhead tank of SFRD Tribal School in Gunikanthur in Jawadu Hills on Friday, sources said.

The residential school, functioning with government aid, has 450 persons staying there. According to a complaint filed by the administration, students who went to wash their plates after supper on Friday found the water stinking. The school staff, who rushed there, found that pesticide had been mixed in the tank.

Though no student consumed the water, 20 students who were suspected to have gargled the water, were taken to Jamunamarathur Primary Health Centre. They were later referred to Vaniyambadi Government Hospital as a precautionary step and sent home. District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer Kannaiyan inspected the school on Saturday.
