Kalpathy Carnatic music fest to begin on November 8

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the six-day long Kalpathy Carnatic music festival at Kalpathy Agraharam here on November 8.

The meeting will be presided over by K.K. Divakaran, M.L.A. The chief guests at the function are K.E. Ismail, M.P and M.V. Sreyamskumar, M.L.A.

The music festival, organised by District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), is part of the Kalpathy Ratholsavam. The festival, which sees the participation of people irrespective of caste or religion, is second only to the Puri Jagannath Swamy Temple Rath Yathra.

The inaugural function will be followed by a music concert by Sanjay Subramanian (vocal); S. Varadarajan (Violin); Neyveli Venkatesh (Mridangam) and Trichy K. Murali (Ghatom).

On November 9, the concert is by Mysore Nagamani Sreenath. The concerts of V.R. Dileepkumar, Srikrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan (Trichur brothers) and N. Vijay Siva will follow on November 10, 11 and 12 respectively. On the concluding day of the festival, November 13, the concert is by Shareeth.

The valedictory function of the festival will be inaugurated by Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

The function will be presided over by K.K. Divakaran, M.L.A. The chief guests at the function are M.B. Rajesh and P.K. Biju (both M.Ps).
