Police used canes to disperse Youth congress activists who clashed with them and pelted stones during a march asking government not to raise the retirement age of teachers in the state, in front of the secretariat here on Wednesday, police sources said.
Five activists, including the Youth Congress State President M. Liju, were injured in the melee.
The activists also tried to break the barricades put by police, the sources said.
The state government had recently raised the retirement age of teachers in government medical colleges. The youth congress felt the government decision was a first step to increase the retirement age of other government employees.
