KC (Thomas) plans Raj Bhavan march

September 02, 2010 08:06 pm | Updated 08:06 pm IST - KOCHI:

The Kerala Congress (Thomas) will organise a Raj Bhavan march on September 9 in protest against the change in import duty regime of natural rubber.

P.C. Thomas, chairman of the faction, said here on Thursday that the move would hit rubber farmers adversely at a time when the crop was fetching good price. Any revision in import duty would be made at the budget session of Parliament as it would ensure discussions.

Contrary to this practice, the present revision was done without any deliberations, Mr. Thomas said.

He said the Union government should also ensure the promised quota of rice to the State. The recent Supreme Court verdict should not be used as a reason to deny the State its due, he said.
