Collector pulls up Nizamabad GGH officials

Two women died in March allegedly due to hospital negligence

District Collector Yogitha Rana has taken to task the Superintendent of Government General Hospital here for his alleged negligence in running the institution leading to problems for patients.

She also issued show-cause notice to gynaecology unit in-charge Rajeswari in connection with the death of two woemn during March. The Collector conducted an inquiry into the deaths at the GGH here on Saturday.

District Medical and Health Officer Venkat, GGH Superintendent Narendra Kumar, DCHS Srinivasa Prasad, Government Medical College Principal Nirmala, senior gynaecologist in the town Kavitha Reddy, IKP Project Director Chandra Mohan Reddy, ICDS officials and relatives of victims were present. After hearing the versions of doctors concerned and also the relatives of Tadem Jyothi and Govoori Swaroopa who lost their lives after being admitted to the hospital for delivery, the Collector warned of serious action if the case sheets of the patients were found to be doctored or tampered with.

She expressed ire at the authorities when Swaroopa’s husband Ramesh complained that even the ambulance service was denied for shifting the body of his wife. He said that his wife, who safely delivered the first girl child nine years ago in a private hospital, died in the Government hospital during her second pregnancy.

Ms. Rana said that there were all necessary facilities and 140 doctors in the GGH and if anything untoward happens to the patients all the staff should bow their heads in shame.
