Plea for better rail link

July 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - TUTICORIN:

Tuticorin District Passengers’ Welfare Association has urged the railway to extend Trivandrum Central – Mangalore Central Maveli Express (Train No: 16603/16604) so that Tuticorin would have rail link to Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kannur in Kerala and Mangalore in Karnataka.

The association said that there was a huge demand to connect Tuticorin with Trivandrum, since a large number of people use the Kerala capital for their overseas travel.

The Shencottah-Tirunelveli passenger (Train No: 56800/56801) must also be extended to Tuticorin to provide a link between Tuticorin and Shencottah.

Moreover, the primary maintenance of this train could be done in Tuticorin as night maintenance slot and facilities were available, he said.
