March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Seventeen boats kept at Vennamadaikulam near the Five Falls at Courtallam in the district suffered extensive damage when mysterious fire broke out on Wednesday evening.

Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation used to operate 4-seater, 2-seater boats and kayaks for three months at Vennamadaikulam on the Main Falls – Five Falls stretch during the ‘Courtallam season’ every year. After the end of the season, the boats would be kept at the jetty.

The TTDC had kept 36 fibreglass boats at Vennamadaikulam. Fire-tenders from Shencottai extinguished the fire.

Police suspect that the fire set by miscreants might have destroyed the boats worth about 15 lakh.

Based on the complaint from Karuppaiah, manager of TTDC Hotel at Courtallam, police have registered a case.
