12.5 kg of Iranian saffron seized at Karipur

Smugglers intended to sell it in Jaipur at thrice the price

The Air Customs Intelligence wing at Calicut International Airport at Karipur seized 12.5 kg of high-quality Iranian saffron worth Rs.22.5 lakh from a Kasaragod passenger who arrived from Dubai on an Indigo flight on Sunday morning. The saffron was meant to be smuggled to Jaipur, where it would fetch nearly three times the cost. Mohammed Naseer, 24, from Mugurod, Kasaragod, was detained on suspicious behaviour by a Customs team They found Bahrang-brand Iranian superfine saffron in six large packets.
