Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry and in-charge of the district A. Manju on Friday assured the public that he will strive for the overall development of Hassan district. “I will stay in the district for at least two days in a week and pay attention to development projects here,” Mr. Manju said, after getting felicitated at a function organised by the Nagarika Vedike here.

“I have no godfather in politics. My brother-in-law and former Minister H.N. Nanje Gowda was a big name in politics. But, he did not bring me into politics. In fact, he opposed when I expressed my desire to contest elections. He was worried that people, who had defeated him, would discard me too. However, I continued to stay in politics and won people’s heart and confidence,” he said.

He said that he could become an MLA and later a Minister only because of the support of the people of his constituency, Arkalgud. “Every day, I pray god to keep me as humble as I have been since my younger days. I consciously put in efforts to remain simple and humble, no matter what position I occupy,” he said.Journalist and farmers’ activist R.P. Venkateshamurthy, in his address, appealed to the Minister to initiate measures to to popularise organic farming, which would involve chemical fertilisers. “Let us make efforts to ensure that no farmer uses chemicals in the district. We have ruined our agricultural economy by depending heavily on chemicals,” he said.
