Safai karamcharis, who strive to keep the premises of University of Mysore clean, will receive Rs. 298 per day from January 1 compared to the Rs. 226 they are currently being paid.
Announcing this at a joint press conference with the University of Mysore’s K.S. Rangappa, Chairman of State Safai Karamchari Commission Narayan said, “After a prolonged meeting with university officials, the Vice-Chancellor has agreed to pay them Rs. 298 per day as per the Minimum Wages of the Labour Department.”Mr. Narayan added that Provident Funds will also be introduced for the benefit of safai karamcharis, who will pay 12 per cent while the university will contribute 13.61 per cent. He said the university was considering a proposal to extend health insurance to safai karamcharis.
