The State government on Sunday announced ‘Chandranna Ramzan Tohfa’ to 11 lakh white ration cardholders belonging to Muslim community.
Information Technology Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy announced that each family would be provided free of cost five kilograms of wheat, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram vermicelli and 100 grams of ghee. The distribution would be made through ration shops in the State from July14.
He said that Ramzan would be celebrated a State festival and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would participate in an Iftar party at Vijayawada on July 17. He said that all district Collectors have been instructed to organise Iftar parties in their respective districts.
Stating that the State government was committed to the welfare of minorities, he said the government had earmarked Rs.30.70 crore for the ‘Chandranna Ramzan Tohfa’. He said the government had already initiated ‘Dukan-Makan, Roshni and Dulhan schemes for the welfare of Muslims. He said committees comprising Collectors and Superintendents of Police in various districts have already been tasked with protecting Wakf properties which were encroached upon. Listing out various welfare schemes, he said that Rs.2.5 crore was released for taking up repairs and lighting up of mosques. The government was also providing cheques for Rs.50,000 to economically poor Muslim families to meet wedding expenses.
