GoAir flight makes emergency landing

July 11, 2016 12:49 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:24 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Passengers of a Kolkata-Delhi GoAir flight had a miraculous escape when the aircraft was hit by lightning leading to a cracked windshield, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Saturday.

The GoAir flight (G8 102), with 180 passengers on board apart from the cabin crew, had taken off from Kolkata and was about half an hour away from landing in Delhi when it was struck by lightning. The pilot then requested the Delhi Air Traffic Control (ATC) for an emergency landing. At 3.55 p.m., the Delhi ATC gave clearance, after putting in place emergency measures. The three-year-old Airbus 320-214 then landed safely at runway 10 of the IGI Airport at 4.33 p.m.

No one suffered any injury during the landing.

The cracked windshield was repaired, and the aircraft made operational on Sunday morning, said a GoAir spokesperson
