Plea for film city in Puducherry

August 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 10:01 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Puducherry Development Party has petitioned Lieutenant Governor to set up a film city in Puducherry. S.Baskaran, President, Puducherry Development Party, said that Puducherry was a beautiful city which is a preferred destination for film crews to shoot.

“On an average, about 25 percent of Tamil cinema scenes are shot in Puducherry. Actors like Surya shoot at least one scene for their films in Puducherry. The Oscar-winning movie Life of Pi was shot in Puducherry. It gave Puducherry a global reach,” he stated in the petition.

He added that there were many youngsters who were keen in film-making. “There are already making short films. Many people are expressing interest in getting trained on making a film too. Hence, we placed a request before the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to establish a film city in Puducherry,” he said.

Mr. Baskaran mentioned that the film city should have full facilities of post production. This will create job opportunities and generate revenue to Puducherry.

It is to be noted that the film producers association and film actors association have submitted a petition to the chief minister in 2008.
