11 post-graduate courses soon: CM

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Thursday said that 11 post-graduate courses would be commenced in the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute (IGMCRI) from next academic year.

Mr. Narayanasamy and Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao handed over the admission letters to new students who were allotted seats through the counselling conducted by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC).

Chief Secretary Manoj Parida and Director of Medical Education K.V. Raman were present.

Speaking at the function Mr. Narayanasamy said his government has taken efforts to make Puducherry as an education hub. He said that the government spends Rs. 1 crore on each student during the course duration and has been taking steps to launch post-graduate courses from next academic year.

“We plan to commence 11 new post-graduate courses with maximum intake of 44 students. Initially, we may start with an intake of 35 students in each course,” said Mr. Narayanasamy.

He also said that IGMCRI should focus on research and should render quality medical service to all.

“The government aims to make the institute on a par with JIPMER and will allocate sufficient fund towards achieving the goal,” said the Chief Minister.
