A police officer has been caught on camera allegedly thrashing a woman inside the Kandivali police station here, following which an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

According to Rakesh Shetty, who captured the episode on his mobile phone camera, the incident took place on May 11 when the woman and her husband reached the police station to register a complaint but the accused Sub-Inspector, Riyaz Mulani, refused to lend them an ear.

Though the couple has not sought any action against the officer, Mr. Shetty went ahead and complained about the alleged assault on the woman to the Kandivali Police.

The video grab shows the police officer hitting the lady with a wooden stick inside the police station premises.

Mr. Shetty, a real estate professional, happened to be at the police station at that time for lodging a complaint.

No case yet

Mr. Shetty said he apprised higher officials in the department of the incident, including the city police chief, but no case has been filed against Mr. Mulani yet.
