August 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 04:02 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The 12th World Down’s Syndrome Congress began at ITC Grand Chola here on Tuesday. The event will bring together professionals and campaigners to create worldwide awareness of this genetic condition.

This year’s theme for the congress is ‘Panch Tatvas’ — social awareness and self determination, health, education and employment, support system, rights and the law. The congress will come to a close on Friday.

“We are working on providing better healthcare for them. Many health insurance companies do not cover people with this condition; we are in talks with some of them to be inclusive,” said S. Suresh, Director of Mediscan at a recent press conference.
