Binaca Creations will be organising a two-day exhibition-cum-sale showcasing the Lucknow Chikankari work at Hotel Ambica Sea Green, Beach Road, from April 1.
Lucknow Chikankari, an ethnic hand embroidery form of designs, has been practised and patronised in India for over 400 years.
The art form is said to have been imported from Persia, and the hand-crafted design is a thing of high craftsmanship, according to Bina Rao of Binaca Creations.
The art form has made Lucknow and its adjoining areas its home and over 10 lakh artisans are dependant on chikan work.
In tune with the developments in the fashion world, Chikankari in the recent times has adapted additional embellishments such as Mukaish, Kamdani, Badla, sequin, bead and mirror work.
According to Ms. Bina Rao, the embroidery is mostly done on fabrics such as cotton, semi georgette, pure georgette, crepe, chiffon, silk and any other fabric, which is light and highlights the embroidery.
