Jump in SCR Vijayawada division revenue

The South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada Division, has earned Rs. 764.85 crore by transporting 93.52 million passengers during 2014-15 registering a 15 p.c. growth compared to 2013-14. Raids conducted by special squads yielded Rs. 35.22 crore, according to officials.

The gross earnings of the division during 2014-15 was Rs. 4,603.27 crore, of which Rs. 3,710.68 crore was freight revenue against Rs. 2,509 crore revenue in 2013-14. Increase in freight revenue was 47.89 per cent more this year, said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashok Kumar.

The Railways operated 202 special trains to meet the passengers demand and earned Rs. 8.2 crore last year. By attaching 1,232 additional coaches, the division earned Rs. 5.04 crore, according to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager N.V. Satyanarayana.

Model stations

Twenty-six railway stations have been identified as model stations. Besides, six stations – Nellore, Bapatla, Gudur, Dwarapudi, Kakinada Town and Machilipatnam – have been modernised as ‘Adarsh Stations’.

Vijayawada division had spent Rs. 26.44 crore on improving passenger amenities at various stations. SCR introduced online booking facility for retiring rooms at Vijayawada, Nellore, Gudur, Rajahmundry and Tenali stations.

Station Ticket Booking Sewaks was introduced at 17 railway stations in the division. On March 24 this year, one private freight terminal was commissioned at Anaparthi railway station, the DRM added.
