Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko accused Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of adopting double standards on the Intelligence Bureau reports with regard to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE).
He was addressing a demonstration organised by the party here on Tuesday.
The protest was organised to condemn the State government for filing the affidavit in the apex court stating that the Periyar dam should be protected by the Central Industrial Security Force, instead of the Kerala police as “it faced threat from among others the supporters of LTTE.”
He wanted the Chief Minister to clarify whether the affidavit was filed without her knowledge. The Chief Minister has ordered to withdraw the affidavit in the Supreme Court only after she realised that the government would have to face the wrath of the Tamils, he said.
“Will the Chief Minister withdraw the cases ‘foisted’ by the ‘Q’ Branch police against the LTTE, also based on the IB reports, in order to substantiate the need to ban LTTE,” he asked.

inspects dam
The five-member sub-committee, constituted by the SC-appointed High Power Supervisory Panel for Periyar Dam, led by Central Water Commission Executive Engineer Umberji Harish Girish, inspected the Main dam and Baby dam and its galleries here on Tuesday. The panel discussed strengthening of the Baby dam and creation of better infrastructure.
The team has decided to inspect Vaigai dam, lower camp and forebay dam and also identified sites to establish rain gauge at 10 spots in Periyar dam site to measure rain fall periodically. They also discussed possible steps for laying electric cable to provide power supply to dam site and also the number of trees to be removed near Baby dam to undertake strengthening work.
