April 28, 2015 03:19 pm | Updated 03:19 pm IST - Hyderabad:

Neelima, a city based software employee, who went on an expedition to Mount Everest along with her team members, is safe. She spoke to her uncle Kondaveeti Prasad a little while ago.

The team climbing down braving the quake triggered avalanche said she could not contact any one for the last two days because of communication system breakdown. The group would take another two days to reach the base camp, according to her uncle.

Ms. Neelima described the scene of destruction which they witnessed while descending. Several hotels, eateries which they saw while going on the mountaineering expedition, now lay in shambles post the earthquake. The region continued to reel under aftershocks and bodies were seen strewn all over.

Nelima said the signal would improve once they descended to lower level in about two to three hours and she would call again. The seven-member team, of which Neelima was a part, was lucky to be safe but members of other expedition teams were not so lucky, she told her uncle.
