Outer Delhi will enjoy Metro connectivity from Tuesday with the 4.3-km long Jahangirpuri- Samaypur Badli extension of the Yellow Line set to open for public.
The stretch with three stations, which has finally received the green signal from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), will cater to residents of areas such as Jahangirpuri, Samaypur Badli, Transport Nagar, G.T. Karnal Road and parts of Rohini.
Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will flag off services on the line on Tuesday.
“The first ceremonial train will start from Samaypur Badli. Commercial services for the public will begin from 2 p.m.,” a metro spokesperson said.
The safety inspection of the extension line had to be cancelled twice as the CMRS requested a reschedule of the inspection.
The section, with stations at Haiderpur, Rohini Sector 18 and Samaypur Badli, will have an average ridership of around 30,000.
At present, Jahangirpuri is one of the terminal stations on this line, the other end of which runs till Gurgaon’s Huda City Centre.
By 2016, the ridership on this route is expected to touch 7,186 at Badli; 11,133 at Rohini Sector-18 and 10,262 at Samaypur Badli.
With this extension, the Yellow Line will run for 49 kilometres.
“The total Metro network, including the Airport Express Line with the opening of this section, will be 213 km with 160 stations. The total travel time from Samaypur Badli station to Huda City Centre station will be around 1 hour and 20 minutes,” the official added.
