The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested senior IAS official Sanjay Pratap Singh, who is currently holding the post of Principal Secretary in the Delhi government’s Department for Welfare of SC, ST and Minorities, on bribery charges.

Mr. Singh, an IAS officer of 1984 batch, is second in command in the government body.

He was arrested along with his personal assistant when they were allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs.2.2 lakh from the owner of a manpower agency that provides security guards, peons and other workers to the department.

It is learnt that the CBI received a complaint from the agency owner alleging that the accused IAS official was demanding money to ensure smooth functioning of the arrangement between him and the department.

“Acting on the complaint, we mounted surveillance on the official.

“A trap was laid and the accused were arrested when they were receiving the bribe on Tuesday,” a CBI official said, adding that the agency planned to conduct searches on the official and residential premises of the accused persons.
