Plea to retrieve temple land

May 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Coimbatore:

The International Sri Vaishnava Dharma Samrakshana Society representatives on Monday petitioned the district administration seeking assistance in retrieving the land belonging to the Sri Karivaradharaja Perumal Temple in Peelamedu.

In their petition, the Society representatives said that a popular trust that managed education institutions in the district had encroached upon 14.31 acre, which was given as donation in 1922.

The land encroached was supposed to be a garden for the temple. The members of the trust had transferred the title deed of the land on to their names and sold the land to 35 people. In the interest of justice, the district administration should direct the Anti-Land Grab Cell police to register a case in this connection and conduct a thorough inquiry.

‘Act against DK leaders’

The All India Hindu Mahasabha on Monday petitioned the district administration seeking action against the Dravidar Kazhagam leaders, who recently staged the ‘thali removing’ protest across the State.

In its petition, the organisation said that by conducing the programme, the DK leader had targeted Hindus and hurt their sentiments, though people from other religions also used ‘thali’. They had also denigrated the Indian culture. The administration should, therefore, suggest the State government to act against the leaders.
