Chennai roads are turning into a desert. I'm not joking and I'm not blind either. I don't mean the heat. I mean the mounds of sand piled up on the roads. You want to see a sand dune? You got it, walk near the footpath. You want to experience a sand storm? You got that too, if you go behind a bus.
Impediments
Most of the accidents these days are caused by bikes skidding off the road. And that is not because of our speed but because of the sand, the fine sand. We don't obviously want girls looking like masked criminals on the roads. Jokes apart, every third person you know is allergic to dust and it may lead to an intractable condition.
Where is the sand from? New flyovers, roads dug for God knows what reason, Metro rail projects … the list goes on.
Futile efforts?
I do see Corporation workers meticulously sweeping the roads and leaving the sand near the platform.
I also see the sand back on the roads on my face, in my ears and ... Trust me you can make a living out of these sands during the summer and also get nice gooey chocolate dessert during winter!
