There's a distinct character to fashion designer Deepika Govind's clothes. “Deep thought and research goes into each of my creations.” With every launch, Deepika enhances her creativity. Take her Eri silk collection, for instance. Eco-friendly, yet trendy, the collection is unique, which reveals Deepika's classic. It's time now to see her quirky side.

Chutney.com, her latest creation, is a collection of t-shirts that capture the spirit of modern India. Young India, more precisely. The t-shirts are a combination of traditional and the quirky.

Three broad collections are available under chutney.com: Sporty, Vintage and Hampi revisited. The Sporty collection includes tees meant for the traveller who wants to carry with him or her threads of the Indian experience.

Vintage is a collection that envisages Indian culture in its entirety while the Hampi revisited collection replicates, through motifs and designs, the glory of Hampi.

The tees are neither over the top nor kitschy. The t-shirts also reflect Deepika's ability to contemporarise classics. So the t-shirts, complete with polo collars and classic colours such as white, indigos and deep reds, have a variety of Hinglish words such as “phir milte hain”, “chutney chai”, “Ishwar ek hain” etc. There are yoga, Kathakali and Gandhi motifs too, which add to the sporty look of the tees. “Rugged, vibrant and full of life” is how Deepika describes the t-shirts.

Deepika wanted to create t-shirts that would be relevant to modern India.

“India is ready for the t-shirt revolution,” she says. All the t-shirts are priced between Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 6,500.

The t-shirts are available at the Deepika Govind store 21\11, Craig Park Layout, M.G. Road, Bangalore. Call: 25321786 or visit www.deepikagovind.com.
