In search of fame

Director Manimaran’s upcoming film Pugazh is set against a political backdrop. “With love and family sentiment in equal measure, the film has Jai playing the role of a common man. Marimuthu (film director of Pulival ) is pitted against him as a small-town politician,” says Manimaran. Interestingly, Karunaas plays a serious role as Jai’s brother. Surabhi of Ivan Vera Mathiri fame plays Jai’s girlfriend.

A robber’s love for the khaki

Murliram plays the protagonist in director Yureka’s ( Madurai Sambavam ) upcoming film Thoppi . “A very intense role, I was not sure if I could do justice to it. But Yureka seemed to have full confidence in me and encouraged me throughout the shoot. I play a member of a hill tribe whose main occupation is robbery. My character yearns to lead a reformed life and decides to become a policeman, much against the wishes of the community and the local police force,” says Murliram, a former TV anchor. He is paired with Raksha Raj in Thoppi . This is Murliram’s first in a lead role, while he has played supporting roles in a couple of films earlier.

Friends to the fore

Director Radhabarathi’s Nanbargal Narpani Mandram, featuring Senguttavan and Akshatha, deals with true friendship which he says supersedes all other relationships. While the film will have its share of romance and emotions, friendship occupies a prime place in the script. “I believe true friendship is akin to a mother’s love for her child. Taking off from this, Nanbargal Narpani Mandram talks about a group of friends who go about extending help to solve the problems of the local community. They use their friendship as a network to access all areas of local governance for solving these problems,” says Radhabarathi.
