The story true to its title suggests that we all have dreams and goals but when you work for it and all is lost in the process, instead of blaming destiny pull up your socks and give it another try, fortune could knock at your door surely. It is a story of two friends — Dhana (Kartik) and Raju (Sudhakar), a struggling hockey player with no academic credentials and one who gives up his studies when his father passes away and becomes a drummer respectively. Both hail from lower middle class families and have understanding, supportive family. Their happy lives take a turn when the women they are attracted to are almost engaged or married to someone else and they watch in helplessness. Kartik’s father also dies in an accident. They boys come to terms with life and make a fresh beginning and the result, they achieve their goals and with success the girls too return.
This film has been totally mishandled and it is evident by the amateur handling of the auteur. You feel it could have better been a short story; there are umpteen unnecessary scenes and all of them test their patience, be it the flash back stories of their childhood or the hockey match(es).
The conflict point should have come before the break, it comes later and is treated tamely. Radhika Sarat Kumar returns after ages but both she and Poornima have been thoroughly wasted. Big names don’t necessarily add value to the screen, the audience feels cheated if there is no strong role is etched for certain actors.
Newcomer Kartik has big eyes and draws attention with his striking features. More fire in his work could have helped. The big screen deserves better looking heroines even if it means they need to fit into the girl-next-door image.
It is senior actor Naresh who makes the only impact in the ten-minute role given to him. Sudhakar has the potential but he was totally wasted too. The dialect of Visakhapatanam is not right and is used on and off, with no consistency. Undhile Manchi Kalam Mundhu Mundhuna is a tiring and a boring watch, a wasted opportunity by a new director. Good cinematography, bad screenplay, narration, casting and music makes it an avoidable film.
