The suspense over Hardik Pandya’s anticipated move from Gujarat Titans to his Indian Premier League alma mater Mumbai Indians persisted even after the player retention list was made official on Sunday.

Hardik, who has led the Gujarat Titans to a title and a runners-up run in its first two seasons, was included in the Titans’ retained list. However, with the player trading window to remain open until December 12, the likelihood of him being traded out to Mumbai Indians still persists.

Interestingly, after releasing 11 players and adding Romario Shepherd as a traded player, Mumbai Indians has an auction purse of Rs. 15.25 crore remaining at the moment. Should Hardik’s deal go through, it will have 18 players - minimum squad size required - and just 25 lakh going into the player auction scheduled on December 19.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes (Chennai Super Kings), Harry Brook (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Wanindu Hasaranga (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Shardul Thakur (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Shahrukh Khan (Punjab Kings) were among the big-ticket signings who were released by their respective franchises.

Contrary to speculation, allrounders Andre Russell and Sam Curran were retained by KKR and PBKS, respectively.
