Section 8: AG writes to Governor?

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 03, 2016 05:03 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi is believed to have communicated his opinion over invocation of Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, which has become a bone of contention between the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, to the common Governor E.S.L Narasimhan.

This comes in the wake of a petition by A.P. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the Governor to implement Section 8 of the Act. During his recent visit to New Delhi, the A.P. Chief Minister had accused. the Telangana government of tapping the phones of his colleagues and charged the Governor with being a silent spectator to the alleged brazen violation of the Act.

Mr. Naidu and his Cabinet colleagues had been demanding the Governor to take over the law and order jurisdiction in Hyderabad, while Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao continued to maintain that law and order was a State subject and Hyderabad was integral part of Telangana.
