A promising chess champion in the city is being facilitated to transform into a grand master by Olirum Erodu Foundation.
Earlier this week, P. Iniyan, Standard IX student of The Indian Public School, was presented with a cheque for Rs. 2.03 lakh, sponsored by OEF for his participation in an International Tourney, by the District Collector S. Prabakar.
The money is meant to meet the expenses the boy will incur towards taking part in the chess competitions at Barcelona and Barbera in the coming weeks.
The Collector handed over the cheque in the presence of the OEF chairman M. Chinnasamy, secretary S. Ganesan, and the player's father K. Paneerselvam.
OEF, which had also sponsored the entire expenses of Rs. 1.75 lakh for the boy's trip to take part in Russian World Championship earlier this year, has as its objective grooming at least two persons from Erode to achieve at the level of Olympic games.
Iniyan had represented India at Russia after winning Silver in Asian Sub Junior Chess at Mongolia.
