A woman from Bengaluru, who got married to a man from Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), has filed a complaint with the Urgaum police charging family members with dowry harassment.

K. Priyanka, a resident of Muneshwar Nagar in Bengaluru, married Srinathat KGF in December 2016. Srinath is working in the Army and currently posted at Vadodara in Gujarat.

In the complaint Ms. Priyanka said 300 grams of jewels, household utensils, and a motor bike were given as dowry beside ₹ 3 lakh cash during marriage and it was assured ₹ 2 lakh will be given later.

The family members started torturing Priyanka after Srinath returned to Vadodara. They were putting pressure to bring more dowry, she said in the complaint.

To avoid being harassed by in-laws and other family members, Priyanka went to Vadodara to live with her husband. However, Srinath also tortured her there, she said.

Urgaum police have registered a case and are investigating.
