The Pondicherry State Cooperative Union has started five job-oriented courses as part of its skill development programme.

Parliamentary secretary to Chief Minister K. Lakshminarayanan on Friday inaugurated the courses.

One hundred fifty students have enrolled for the courses such as junior software developer, field technician-computer and peripherals, Tally with GST, jewellery appraiser and computer concepts.

The courses are conducted on an hourly basis. The fees when compared to private institutions was very less.

Mr. Lakshminarayanan distributed certificates to 20 students who had completed various short-term courses.

The Congress MLA appealed to the students to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge to meet the growing demands of the industry. He said the courses would be beneficial to the poor due to the lower fees.
