The Madras Week celebrations are back again this year with events already taking place in various parts of the city.
From exhibitions, heritage walks, talks to quizzes and plays, there will be an array of events in different localities up to August 23.
Historian V. Sriram said there were a lot of local events and locality celebrations this time; for instance, a textile walk at T. Nagar and a butterfly walk in the Adyar poonga.
“In the textile walk, people will get to know about the history of each shop; also, there will be something on the history of the Justice Party in Triplicane. The information is being highlighted in such an interesting fashion,” Mr. Sriram added.
Actor Mohan Raman said there would be lectures on a host of topics, ranging from commerce and fine arts to music.
Sashi Nair of Press Institute of India said, “When we started, we did not know it could trigger this kind of enthusiasm.” From Madras Day, it grew to Madras Week and now it has turned into a month-long celebration.
Historian S. Muthiah said, “It’s your city! It’s my city! It’s our city! Let’s take pride.”
