The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has extended the last date for availing five per cent rebate on property tax till the end of June.

A resolution to this effect was passed by Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy on Tuesday.

The rebate period is being extended for the second time this fiscal. The Mayor passed the resolution extending the rebate period following a discussion on the problems that citizens continued to face while paying their property tax. The Opposition Party leaders pointed out that not everyone had internet facility to pay their tax online and that queues at the designated banks were long.

The burning of garbage was also discussed at length during the council meeting. Ruling Party Leader R.S. Sathyanarayan pointed out that mixed waste was being burnt and fake bills were being generated by the garbage contractors. This was causing a huge loss to the financially starved BBMP.
