What enraged residents of Bingipura on Monday was the inclusion of four civil works worth Rs. 2.10 crore for Neeladri Layout, a builder developed layout far away from the landfill, in the list of projects approved for the villages suffering due to the landfill.

On Monday, the BBMP approved 21 civil works worth Rs. 15.41 crore that mainly include asphalting of roads, provision of drains and drinking water facilities in S. Bingipura, Doddatogooru and Bettadasapura villages, as demanded by the local residents.

BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik said that a decision was taken to get the projects executed by Karnataka Land Army.

“What reason do we have to trust the BBMP? Even after all the protests, the BBMP is helping private builders develop layouts rather than us,” rued Anil Kumar, president of Doddatogooru gram panchayat.

Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy said, “We discovered that the list has four projects for providing drains in Neeladri Layout, which has seen large apartment complexes by leading builders. Why should BBMP provide infrastructure in places unaffected by the landfill? We discovered that a local BJP leader was instrumental in including these works. We have taken a decision to scrap these from the list and use the funds to provide other facilities in the affected villages.”
