A portion of road at Tadbund Crossroads caved in early on Tuesday, throwing traffic movement out of order.

According to Trimulgherry traffic police, as there were no road users near the crater at the time the incident happened, no injuries were reported. Police say the road caved in as an underground water pipe at the spot had broken.

The pipeline is managed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). It supplies water to Hasmathpet. The cracked pipeline let water into the earth, causing the road to cave in. Officials suspect the pipe had cracked and allowed water accumulation over a period of a few days, causing it to soak the road and eventually leading to the road caving in. Sources also informed that an inspection of the pipelines nearby will be done to ensure that a similar problem does not occur again. Due to the sudden formation of the sink hole, traffic through the junction was forced to slowdown to navigate the pit. The pit remained open most of the day and was filled late in the evening.
