More than 750 persons were taken into custody by the city police in different Commissionerates for trying to attend the rally for which the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) had given a call. Of the total, 447 were detained by the Hyderabad police, 77 by the Cyberabad police and 230 by the Rachakonda police.

As police expected trouble, most of the people were detained by afternoon itself. Of the 447 who were taken into custody in Hyderabad, over 200 alone were picked up from the central zone areas of Jawahar Nagar, Hyderguda, Maruthi Nagar and Baghlingampally.

A press release from the Hyderabad police said that the detainees were let off by evening.

Minor incident

A senior police official said that a minor incident of stone-pelting took place at Nizam College in the afternoon after some students had burnt an effigy. Barring that, no other such incidents were reported from the city, including Osmania University.
