Temple burgled: idol and valuables stolen

Unidentified miscreants took away a panchaloha idol and some other valuables from the Asha Pooraha Ganapathy shrine at Ganapathy Nagar here on Friday night. The incident came to light on Saturday. Police said priests and devotees found the front door lock broken open on Saturday when they went for morning poojas. They found the one-and-a-half foot high panchaloha idol of processional deity Vinayakar, some silver articles including headgear (kreetam), lamps, vessels missing.

Thanjavur South Police have registered a case and are investigating.
