Activists opposing the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) on Tuesday decided to convert their 72-hour fast at Idinthakarai near the project site in southern Tamil Nadu into an indefinite one.

The decision was taken at the protest venue on Tuesday. evening. All 106 persons now observing hunger strike will continue the agitation, demanding that the Centre immediately stop all construction and maintenance activities at KKNPP and honour the State Cabinet's resolution seeking halt to work until people's fears about the project are allayed.

However, the struggle committee asked the parents of Idinthakarai to send their children to schools from Wednesday onwards, “as their education should not get affected due to the anti-nuke protests”.

The protesters also conducted a special ‘yagna' at the Viswamithra temple, Vijayapathi, for the success of their campaign.

The committee formed a team to negotiate with the house owners of Kudankulam and Vairaavikinaru, who have given their houses on lease to KKNPP labourers from other districts and States, to have them vacated immediately.
