Amid sparring between New Delhi and Beijing over Tibetan leader Dalai Lama’s proposed visit to Arunachal Pradesh, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan met Vijay Gokhale, Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the External Affairs Ministry, on Thursday, sources said. Details of the 30-minute meeting were not known.

China has expressed objection to the Dalai Lama’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, saying it “further reveals the Dalai clique’s anti-China and separatist essence.”

India, however, said the Dalai Lama was free to travel anywhere in this country.

“Arunachal Pradesh is a part of India and Dalai Lama is free to go anywhere in India,” External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna asserted.
